Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition in South Korea, showcasing the company’s most advanced foldable phone yet. This new model brings significant upgrades, making it the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date, with an enhanced camera system that sets it apart from its predecessors.
Slimmer and Lighter Design
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has been refined to be incredibly slim and lightweight. It measures only 10.6mm in thickness and weighs 236 grams, making it one of the lightest foldable phones on the market. This places it close to the Honor Magic V3, which currently holds the title for the thinnest and lightest foldable, with a 9.3mm thickness and 226 grams in weight.
In terms of screen size, the main display is an impressive 8 inches with a 20:18 aspect ratio, the largest among the Z Fold series. The secondary display is slightly larger as well, measuring 6.5 inches with a more familiar 21:9 aspect ratio, similar to conventional bar-style smartphones. Both displays are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and surrounded by a sturdy aluminum frame.
Camera Upgrades
One of the most notable improvements in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition is the 200MP main camera, a first for the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. This camera comes equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), ensuring crisp and stable shots. The 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and the 12MP ultrawide camera remain unchanged from previous models. The two selfie cameras on the cover and inner screens are also the same as before, featuring 10MP and 4MP sensors, respectively.
Performance and Internals
Internally, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition maintains the same high-end specifications as the standard model. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, featuring an 8-core CPU (with a 3.39GHz Cortex-X4 leading the charge) and the Adreno 750 GPU for superior graphics performance. The phone runs on Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1, offering a smooth and user-friendly interface.
The device is equipped with 12GB of RAM and comes in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, though there is no support for expandable storage.
Display Specifications
Both displays on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition are top-tier. The main 8-inch foldable LTPO AMOLED screen offers a resolution of 1856 x 2160 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of 2600 nits, making it one of the brightest displays on the market. The secondary 6.5-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED display boasts a resolution of 968 x 2376 pixels, also with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1600 nits, making it ideal for outdoor use.
Battery and Charging
The phone’s 4,400 mAh battery supports 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging, ensuring that the device can be charged quickly and can also serve as a power bank for other devices.
Availability and Price
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition is set to be released in South Korea on October 25, 2024, and it will be available in Black Shadow color. The phone is priced at $2040. Reports suggest that the device will also launch in China, where it will be branded as the Samsung Galaxy W25.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition offers a slew of improvements in terms of design, camera performance, and display quality, making it an excellent choice for those looking for the most advanced foldable phone on the market. Its lighter and slimmer form factor, coupled with a powerful 200MP camera, sets a new standard for foldable devices.
