In a significant move to facilitate international travelers and overseas Pakistanis, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has introduced a new web-based application within the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). This system allows users to regularize and register unregistered mobile phones online, streamlining the process and eliminating the need to stand in long airport queues. Now, international travelers can bring their phones in their luggage without the hassle of declaring them at the airport.
New Registration Procedures for Mobile Devices
The FBR has outlined specific procedures for different categories of mobile devices:
- International Travelers: Can now register their mobile devices online without needing to declare them at the airport.
- Local Applicants: Can also register their devices through the online portal, though a fee may be applicable.
- Individuals Importing Phones via Postal Service or Courier: Procedures have been established for those who import mobile devices individually.
- Local Traders Importing Through Informal Channels: Can now regularize these devices through the PTA system.
This system is particularly beneficial for overseas Pakistanis, allowing them to register their mobile phones online within 60 days of their arrival in Pakistan. For them, the registration of one mobile phone is free of charge.
